Setup Storage gateway and move application data from EBS Block Volumes to S3 in order to save cost.

Customer has setup application on EC2 machines and data was being stored on respective EBS volumes. They had requirement of high IOPS therefore they kept the application data on EBS but it was incurring high cost as there was high amount of data being stored on EBS. Hence to save cost, S3 storage was advised to save storage cost along with storage gateway to cater the high IOPS requirement.

Following steps are performed to setup automated data replication from on-prem to AWS

  • Setup Network components like VPC, Subnets, and Routing Tables etc.
  • Setup S3 for, application data storage
  • Setup Storage Gateway and mount respective NFS share on EC2 application servers.
